Case Scaglione has been the Music Director and Conductor of the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra of Los Angeles since July of 2008. Winner of the BMI/Lionel Newman conducting study grant Mr. Scaglione follows in the footsteps of such illustrious conductors as Michael Tilson-Thomas, Lawrence Foster, Lucas Richman, and Daniele Hege.

The 20th music director of the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra Case Scaglione has proven to be an exciting programmer and a promoter of new music. In his short time at YMF he has conducted world premieres by Tom Hormel, Laura Karpman, and Vuk Kulenovic and 2009-2010 marks a season-long celebration of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt’s music. In January of 2010 the Debut Orchestra will be performing a fully staged version of Richard Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, the largest project and the first opera in YMF’s history.

Mr. Scaglione was a student of David Zinman at the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen for three summers. While at Aspen he has had the opportunity to work with such teachers as James Conlon, Leonard Slatkin, Patrick Summers, James Depreist, and Asher Fisch. For his work in Maestro Zinman’s conducting academy Mr. Scaglione was awarded the James Conlon Conducting Prize in 2009 and for 2010 is the recipient of the esteemed Aspen Conducting Prize. As a result, Mr. Scaglione will return to the Aspen Music Festival next summer at David Zinman’s invitation and serve as his assistant conductor.

Mr. Scaglione made his Russian debut, as an invited guest conductor of the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony in spring 2007. In fall of 2008 he assisted David Robert son at the St. Louis Symphony. As a frequent guest cover conductor he also conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl alongside Maestro Bramwell Tovey as the second conductor in Percy Grainger’s “The Warriors”. He has also covered for the Baltimore Symphony, and the Baltimore Opera.

A native of Texas, Mr. Scaglione studied orchestral performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, graduating with a B.M. in 2005. His postgraduate studies were spent at the Peabody Institute under the mentorship of Gustav Meier.
